Shefflin still undecided on retirement

Henry Shefflin insists he still hasn't made his mind up whether to continue his inter-county career with Kilkenny next year.

The 10-time All-Ireland winner, who turns 36 in January, won his fifth Kilkenny SHC title on Sunday as Ballyhale Shamrocks defeated reigning champions Clara.

Speaking afterwards to RTE Sport, Shefflin when asked about potential retirement said: "I honestly don't know.

"I said I would reflect when the club campaign was over and isn't it great to be able to put it off for another week!

"I've enjoyed my club campaign. Obviously I would have liked to have played more over the summer. I'm enjoying playing games. That's what we all train for.

"The longer I put off the decision the better a place it is to be."

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody confirmed last week that he would be back for a 17th season next year.

Shefflin was delighted with Ballyhale's performance as they regained the title they last won in 2012.

"We're absolutely thrilled," he said. "Clara have been worthy champions. They had a great performance in the semi-final so we knew we were going to be up against it.

"We had a bad start but once we got into it, we hurled very well the last 20 minutes of the first half and that gave us the cushion to drive on from there."

Ballyhale will have little time to revel in victory however as they face Dublin champions Kilmacud Crokes in a Leinster club SHC semi-final next weekend.

"It's a little bit unfair on the club that you don't get the chance to celebrate but I suppose that's the beauty of Kilkenny being successful, that we have to go again," he said.

"We have to go to Dublin the week after the county final so it's going to be a serious battle. [But] It's a great place to be."
