Former Cork goalkeeper and selector Ger Cunningham has been appointed as Dublin senior hurling manager for a three-year term.
Cunningham was a selector to Jimmy Barry-Murphy in his native county for the 2012 and 2013 seasons and succeeds Clare man Anthony Daly, who led the Dubs to their first Leinster title in 52 years during his six years in charge.
Cunningham won three All-Ireland crowns, four All Stars and seven Munster titles in a distinguished playing career with his native county, and was named Hurler of the Year in 1986.
In addition to goalkeeping coach and selector duties with Cork, he has managed his home club St Finbarr's, Waterford side Ballygunner, who he led to the 2009 Munster club final and UCC.
A statement from Dublin County Board said: "The Dublin County Committee this evening appointed Ger Cunningham as the Dublin senior hurling manager for a three-year term. Selectors will be appointed at a later stage."
Dublin chairman Andy Kettle commented that “this is another chapter in Ger’s distinguished GAA life and I wish him every success in his new role.
"I am confident that Ger will build on the progress achieved by his predecessors over the next three years.”
