Current Dublin manager Anthony Daly felt Galway went "too deep" in the second half of their Allianz Hurling League Division 1 semi-final defeat against Kilkenny at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.
The Tribsemen lost out on a 1-16 to 0-15 scoreline, despite enjoying a five-point lead at the break.
Daly concluded that Anthony Cunningham's side were part-authors of their downfall and questioned their attitude in the second period.
The current Dublin manager told RTÉ Sport: "It's down to attitude.
"Galway went into defensive mode for the start of the second half. You can't afford to that against this Kilkenny team.
"In the ten minutes before half-time, Galway ran at Kilkenny, causing them untold problems.
"Galway went too deep allowing Kilkenny half-backs to get on top and drive the ball forward" - Anthony Daly
"They just didn't do that in the second and withdrew their half-forward line too deep.
"I know every team does that on occasions, but Galway went too deep, allowing Kilkenny half-backs to get on top and drive the ball forward.
"Henry (Shefflin) took over in the second half. He really dominated the play.
"Overall, I don't Anthony Cunningham will be too disappointed with the overall performance.
"Yet I think the Galway players would love to be contesting a league final. It would do them the power of good."
