A Kilkenny development side moved into the semi-finals of the Bord na Móna Walsh Cup with a close-fought two-point win over NUIG in St John’s Park.
The Cats side, managed by U-21 boss Richie Mulrooney, trailed for most of the game as NUIG, with a host of inter-county names on board, took the game to the hosts.
There were two points separating the side at the break, 0-08 to 0-10, but late scores from Eoin Bergin and John Power (2) saw Kilkenny over the line, 0-17 to 0-15.
Elsewhere, Cork cruised into the semi-finals of the Waterford Crystal Cup with a 4-16 to 1-08 success over Waterford IT at Páirc Uí Rinn.
Anthony Nash (penalty) and Jamie Coughlan smashed home first-half goals to help the Leesiders to a 2-09 to 1-04 advantage at the break.
There was no let up for the students in the second half and Adrian Mannix (2-04) stealing the show to see the Rebels book a date with either Clare or UL next weekend.
