Galway captain Fergal Moore hailed the Tribesmen’ work ethic after their shock victory over Kilkenny in the Leinster Hurling Championship final in Croke Park.
Moore helped Galway to a 2-21 to 2-11 victory as they won their first Bob O’Keeffe trophy and reached the All-Ireland semi-final.
He told RTÉ: “It is hard to believe at the moment. It hasn’t sunk
in yet. The goal at the start of the year was to get to a Leinster
final and we’ve done that now. It is just hard to believe at the
moment."
“We knew it was in us," added Moore. "We were improving throughout the Championship. We played Westmeath and Offaly and improved in certain aspects.
"We left a little bit of room to improve and that it was in us. Luckily we got a good performance today, that is what we were looking for and it was enough.
“It is hugely satisfying but it is a team game. It is 15 lads on a
pitch and five to come on and your defence starts at number 15 and 14 and 13."
Moore added: “I thought our work-rate in the middle third and among the forwards was outstanding.
"It made the backs job a little bit easier because you could be that little bit tighter on your man.
"I just thought it was a brilliant team effort today and we’re hugely proud of that.”
