Waterford forward John Mullane has admitted he regrets his celebration in front of Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald after last Sunday's Munster Senior Hurling Championship semi-final.
The Déise emerged two-point winners at Semple Stadium, and the feisty corner-forward allowed his emotions get the better of him as he slid on his knees in front of Fitzgerald.
Mullane's actions were prompted, he said, by comments made by Fitzgerald to a father of another Waterford player.
There was an edge to the game, as Fitzgerald's four-year reign in charge of Waterford ended just last year.
"It didn't come across well," Mullane told RTÉ Championship Matters.
"I have regrets. My own character was knocked from different people. Going back to the old days, people thought I was after maturing, and I regret that for my own stance."
The De La Salle clubman conceded that his antics had overshadowed what was an impressive Championship victory.
There were words exchanged after the game in the dressing-rooms, with Fitzgerald denying he had suggested Mullane's inter-county career was petering out.
"We had it out in the dressing room after the game. Davy said he didn't say it. That's what we're led to believe."
Mullane admitted that the two men had a good relationship during the Clare supremo's time on Suirside, and hinted that, in time, things could be smoothed out.
"Davy said things in the past. He's obviously going to say it. We'll sit down some day and talk it through, have it out."
