Monaghan’s senior hurling squad will hold a meeting in the morning to discuss their position following the resignation of Mattie Lennon as manager.
Lennon stepped down over a row about club football league games involving members of the senior hurling panel that are scheduled for next Wednesday.
The Farney are due to face Fingal in the Allianz Hurling League Division 3A final in Tullamore on Sunday 15 April, which is due to serve as a curtain raiser for the Division 1A relegation play-off between Galway and Dublin.
A statement released on the county’s official website said Monaghan County Board will meet over the weekend to discuss the situation.
A spokesman for the board said responsibility for fixtures, both inside and outside the county, lay outside its realm.
The spokesman insisted that “all avenues have been exhausted to reach compromise, but to no avail.”
The fixtures at the heart of the issue involve football league games at both senior and intermediate level.
Monaghan finished top of Division 3A after going unbeaten through their five fixtures.
They recorded victories over Donegal, Fingal, Tyrone and Sligo. Their only dropped points came in a drawn game with Louth.
