Cork manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy feels that his Rebel side showed great determination to dig out a draw in their Allianz Hurling League Division 1A clash with Tipperary.

Cork were four points down heading into the endgame at Semple Stadium and Barry-Murphy expressed delight with his team’s comeback, saying, “I thought it was a very tough game. Not as tight marking as you might get in a Championship game, but there was some marvellous scores on both sides.

“And I suppose I felt that when we went four points down, we’d do well to come back and get a draw. I was pleased with the players’ response from that point of view.”

Barry-Murphy also pointed towards Cork’s resilience as a major positive to take from the draw, saying, “That’s what I was most pleased about in the second half. We hung in there and it took a big character to come back, and it’s always hard playing away from home [in] these National League matches, and the home team has a big advantage always.

“But I must say, I’m delighted with the way they’re playing, and they’re showing great commitment, and great tenacity, and great courage.”

The Rebels boss also had plenty of praise for his Premier County opponents, “Well we’ve a style of player where we want to play to our advantages obviously. Equally, I thought Tipperary played some marvellous hurling today, and some of their scores were absolutely brilliant.

“And the way they found their man, and the maturity they could show under pressure, was fantastic I thought. We’ve a long way to be at that level, but we’re getting there I think, certainly. And we can compete now with these counties.”
