Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s second stint in charge of Cork’s senior hurlers has seen the former dual star implement a number of changes to the Rebels set-up, not least the return of Seán Óg Ó hAilpín to the panel.
Barry-Murphy’s return after 12 years away from the Cork fold and Ó hAilpín’s reinstatement after more than a year in the wilderness faces a first acid test against Waterford at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday.
The Cork supremo, speaking to RTÉ’s Brian Carthy at the launch of the Allianz Hurling League, said he was delighted to have Ó hAilpín back on the panel for the forthcoming season.
“Seán Óg is back on the panel now and he is in great shape,” confirmed Barry-Murphy.
“The management team sat down and looked at the talent available to us and we still felt Seán Óg had a lot to offer. I really believe that he can have a very good year for us.
“He is a great example to the younger players, and he is a great model for our younger players to show what it takes to get to the highest level.
“His training regime, his preparation, his whole demeanour in relation to how he prepares for games and how he conducts himself both on and off the field are an example to any young player. We are delighted to have him on-board again.”
