Kilkenny defender John Dalton has retired from inter-county hurling, RTÉ Sport understands.
The 26-year-old's decision comes as yet another blow to Brian Cody's 2012 plans as it follows the retirements of PJ Ryan, Eddie Brennan, Cha Fitzpatrick and Michael Kavanagh.
It is understood Dalton is unable to commit to the panel due to work commitments.
The Carrickshock clubman joined the Kilkenny team in 2006, but didn't feature in the starting 15 until two years later.
He won five All-Ireland medals as a non-playing sub, and four Leinster medals on the field of play.
