Jimmy Barry Murphy has been recommended by the Appointment Committee in charge of selecting a new manager of the Cork hurling team.

Barry Murphy’s appointment is subject to ratification at the next meeting of the Cork County Committee on 6 September.

Former dual-star Murphy will have a three-year tenure and can choose his own selectors and backroom team.

"The Management Committee (of the County Committee) has authorised this announcement now to enable the recommended manager to commence the process of appointing his management team, and to provide the earliest opportunities for management appointments to be considered for the other Cork inter-county hurling teams in the various grades," said the County Committee on gaacork.ie

In a previous spell in the Cork hotseat, Barry-Murphy led the county to the All-Ireland in 1999.
