Many of hurling's big names came to pay their final respects to Tipperary legend, John Doyle, at a crowded Holy Cross Abbey outside Thurles.

The Taoiseach visited Tipperary last night while the President was represented by her aide de camp.

Cathaorlach of the Seanad Pat Moylan was also in attendance as well as GAA president Christie Cooney along with four past presidents.

During an inter-county career that spanned three decades John Doyle won eight all-Ireland medals as well as several Munster Championship and National League titles .

He is survived by his wife Anne, seven children and fifteen grandchildren.
