Anthony Daly's hurlers got their 2010 off to a good start by taking victory in their Evening Herald/Dublin Bus Dubs Stars Football Challenge exhibition match, but the Dublin footballers could not follow suit.
For the hurlers, goals from David Curtin, Kevin Flynn and Maurice O’Brien saw them defeat a Dublin Stars selection 3-16 to 1-11 in the first of two exhibition matches played to mark the opening of new facilities at Fingallians in Swords on Sunday.
Curin and Flynn netted in the first half to leave the score 2-08 to 0-07 at half-time.
O’Brien then added a third goal, with Peter Kelly on target for the Stars’ team.
The match also saw former Dublin footballer Shane Ryan wear the Hurlers colours for the first time in a competitive match since 2001 and he scored the first point of the second half.
Stars selection win football clash
Meanwhile, Ryan's former team-mates on the Dublin Senior Football team lost out to a football 'Stars' side by 3-12 to 1-10.
However, there should be no great cause for alarm among the Dublin faithful as, despite the 'Dublin' v 'Stars' team-names, the sides were evenly matched with high profile current inter-county players lining out for both.
The Stars' goals came from Andrew Kerin, Bernard Brogan and Chris Guckian.
Tomás Quinn scored a consolation for Dublin in the very last minute.
