Former Limerick hurling manager Tom Ryan has said that Justin McCarthy is doing 'immense damage' to Limerick hurling.

In a hard-hitting interview with the Irish Examiner, Ryan said: 'No other manager would have survived here in Limerick after what happened against Tipperary. There’s an elephant in the room here and I wonder who’s really calling the shots.

'The county board are in dread of their life to move him and McCarthy won’t move. Why won’t he go? He’s doing immense damage to Limerick hurling.'

Ryan, who took Limerick to two Munster titles and a National League success in the mid-90s, also said that the Limerick board was a 'laughing stock', and that hurling was losing out to Munster rugby in the battle to get young sports people playing the game.
