The Wexford senior hurling squad has received a blow with the news that attacker Barry Lambert has been ruled out of this year's championship campaign.

The St. Martin's clubman recently underwent an operation on his troublesome shoulder which ends his season. Wexford coach Colm Bonnar has resigned himself to being without his ace
corner-forward and freetaker.

Bonnar said: 'Barry is recuperating from a shoulder operation. Really given the extent of the problem he'll not be under consideration for this year.'

It's a huge blow to Lambert for last year he also missed out on most of the league and championship owing to a troublesome groin problem.

Wexford face Westmeath in the league on Sunday with nothing less than a victory sufficient.

'We must win all our remaining games. We lost to Antrim so cal ill-afford another loss if we are to gain promotion from Division 2,' said the Tipperaryman.

Bonnar has welcomed back long term injured players Paul Roche and Darren Stamp who have been taking part in hurling training since last week and may come into consideration for Sunday's game.
