The Cork hurlers have received a well-timed boost in their attempts to oust manager Gerald McCarthy as club side Youghal have voted overwhelmingly to support the 2008 Cork hurling panel.

The vote of 37-13 in favour of the players will send reverberations around Cork GAA circles as Youghal are the club of incoming GAA president Christy Cooney.

Nemo Rangers have already voted in favour of the players and many clubs will meet in Clonakilty tomorrow night as they attempt to make changes to the decision making structures of the county board.

Elsewhere, Limerick footballer Michael Reidy has announced his retirement from the game.
