Former Limerick and Tipperary senior hurler Mossie Carroll has been appointed Kerry hurling boss in the wake of the recent departure of Pat Heffernan.

Carroll will take his first training session on this Tuesday night as Kerry face a tough NHL campaign this year with their first game against Wexford just over two weeks away.

Heffernan who cited personal reasons for his departure but privately he intimated that the lack of interest by the players contacted to play with Kerry, gave him little option but to walk away.

Carroll will have one of the outgoing selectors D J Leahy from Causeway as one of his management team but another will be appointed in the couple of weeks as Kerry attempt to get a squad together in time for the National League.
