Cork hurling crisis rumbles on

The row in Cork between the hurlers and the manager Gerald McCarthy shows few signs of abating after last night's Prime Time interview with the captain John Gardiner.

On Friday, McCarthy responded to Thursday’s statement issued by the players.

He stated that it would be helpful if the players who were driving the issue were honest enough to acknowledge that the first time this appeared in the media arose when the players anonymously fed a number of journalists what he has described as 'misinformation directed towards him'.

McCarthy also stated that much of his hurling time over the past few years has been devoted towards conflict resolution.

In the statement he added that ‘the players have to take responsibility for their role in this and that it can't go on.’
