Derry and Westmeath are through to the semi-finals of the Christy Ring Cup after wins this afternoon.

Down 0-18 Derry 1-20

Derry ensured Down's interest in the Christy Ring Cup ended at Newry this afternoon as they beat the Mourne side by five points at Páirc Esler.

A 16th-minute goal from Paddy McCloskey proved crucial as it helped the visitors to a 1-11 to 0-10 interval lead.

The second half continued to see Derry on top despite the efforts of Down ace Paul Braniff (0-06).

In a game in which the Oak Leafers always looked comfortable, Michael Kirkpatrick top-scored with 0-11.

Westmeath 2-22 Kildare 3-13

First half goals from Paddy Dowdall and Andrew Mitchell inside 25 minutes steered Westmeath to victory in a repeat of last year's Ring Cup final.

Westmeath, backed by the breeze, led by 2-13 to 1-06 at the interval but Adrian McAndrew got the second half off to a perfect start for Kildare, who trailed by just 2-13 to 3-08 inside eight minutes.

Despite Westmeath hitting eight wides in the second half, Brendan Murtagh slotted over the vital scores for the defending champions.

Wicklow 1-22 Mayo 3-18 (AET)

Former Galway All-Ireland winner Pete Finnerty was a selector for Mayo as the visitors orchestrated a memorable extra-time victory at Aughrim.

Michael Walsh gave an outstanding display between the posts for Mayo, while dual player Keith Higgins and his brother Pearse were among the leading scores for the visitors.

Wicklow had led by 0-08 to 0-07 at half-time in normal time.

Jonathan O'Neill (0-08) top-scored for Wicklow and although Sean Kinsella crashed home a second half goal, the Garden County were outdone in extra-time.

Kerry 2-04 Carlow 1-14
There were goals galore in the second half and although Carlow only bulged the Kingdom net once during this clash it was enough to ensure a seven-point win for them at Austin Stack Park.

Carlow produced a workman-like performance, as they led by 0-09 to 0-03 at half-time.

Goals from Michael Conway and Liam Boyle, including one from a free for the hosts, put them back in contention.

However, a 58th-minute goal from substitute Craig Doyle, following good work by Robbie Foley, confirmed the result.
