Former Clare goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald has been named the new manager of the Waterford hurling team.

The appointment was revealed after a meeting of the county board in Dungarvan on Monday night.

Fitzgerald’s contract is for the duration of the Championship. Peter Queally and Morris Geary will act as the Clare man’s co-selectors.

Justin McCarthy vacated the post following the surprise defeat of the Deise by the Banner in the Munster Championship.
