The Kilkenny County Board have sensationally offered Cork a refixture of their National Hurling League tie - for this Sunday at a venue in either of the two counties.

The last two counties to taste All-Ireland senior success were due to meet on the opening day of the NHL, earlier this month, at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. However, due to the players strike in Cork, that game failed to take place.

Yesterday the GAA's CCCC (Central Competitions Control Committee) awarded Kilkenny the match points and also fined the Cork County Board €400 for failing to fulfil the fixture.

The Rebels were also hit with the same punishment for failing to play Waterford last weekend at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

However, Kilkenny GAA officials have extended an olive branch to their Cork counterparts. They are willing to play them either on Leeside or at Nowlan Park this coming weekend.

The sides were kept apart in both league and championship action last season, with their last competitive meeting being the 2006 All-Ireland final, which Brian Cody's Cats won by 1-16 to 1-13.
