Nicky Rackard Cup round-up

The hurlers of Warwickshire have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Nicky Rackard Cup after pulling off a famous 2-15 to 0-07 victory over Cavan at Breffni Park this afternoon.

Managed by Michael Collins, Warwickshire travelled across the Irish Sea with plenty of intent as a win today would confirm them as runners-up to Louth in Group 3D, thus confirming their place in next weekend's quarter-finals.

And they succeeded as they led 1-08 to 0-07 at half-time and held Cavan scoreless for the entire second half. Wexford man Martin Morrissey was again Warwickshire's key forward as he tallied up 2-08 by the final whistle.

In Group 3C, Roscommon chalked up their second win of this season's Rackard Cup to qualify as table-toppers - they ran out comprehensive 2-21 to 0-14 winners over Monaghan, who also progress as runners-up.

The Rossies bossed the Clones clash and led by 1-09 to 0-09 at the interval with Joey Fallon supplying the goal that split the sides.

Liam Casey added a second green flag as the Connacht men went on to dominate in the second half.

Armagh, who had a bye this weekend, and Tyrone will go forward as Group 3A's representatives in the quarter-finals.

Tyrone booked their spot in the last-eight with a 3-13 to 0-15 defeat of Sligo in Omagh today.

Tyrone were well on course to recording their first win by half-time as they led 3-05 to 0-06.

Sligo's chances were hindered when their captain Mark Burke and Keith Raymond, who suffered a hamstring injury, picked up knocks during the second half.

Meanwhile, in Group 3B, Donegal claimed their second win in the space of a week to finish as group winners.

The Tir Chonaill men got the better of Leitrim, winning by 2-22 to 2-04 in Letterkenny, with Ciaran Dowd and Paddy Hannigan both netting in the second half for the victorious hosts.

James McGinley and Clement Cunniffe grabbed a goal in each half for Leitrim, who were beaten by Longford for second place in the group.

Longford were 2-12 to 1-12 winners over Leitrim in the sides' encounter on 23 June.
