Tipperary ensured their presence in the All-Ireland SHC quarter-finals as they came from behind to beat Dublin at Parnell Park.

Despite losing Eoin Kelly to a first half groin injury and conceding a 43rd minute goal to Peadar Carton, Tipp emerged as victors.

Babs Keating's men led 0-08 to 0-06 at the break with Lar Corbett hitting three points. Dublin goalkeeper Gary Maguire stopped a first half penalty from Willie Ryan and Carton's strike gave the Metropolitans added hope.

Yet Tipp were soon ahead again with Corbett goaling and Ryan, Francis Devanney, Darragh Egan and Benny Dunne adding the clinching points.

Although assured of their place in the quarter-finals, Tipperary will be eyeing up a win over Munster rivals Cork in their final Group B game next weekend to avoid facing either Kilkenny or the winners of tomorrow's Munster final in the last eight.

Kelly swung over two points to get Tipp up and running in Donnycarney but Dublin stuck rigidly to their task and frustrated the visitors by scrapping for every ball and dominating for long periods of the first half.

Tommy Naughton's men, backed by the breeze, replied to Kelly's early salvo with points from Declan Qualter, Keith Dunne and free-taker David Curtin for a 0-03 to 0-02 lead.

They might have been further ahead but two superbly-struck sideline balls from Alan McCrabbe just drifted wide of the mark.

Showing the sort of presence which he offered at centre-back against Cork, Ronan Fallon gave the Dubs a solid platform and was cleaning up plenty of ball.

Tipp were struck a considerable blow in the 26th minute when five-time All Star Kelly had to hobble off, yet his replacement Darragh Egan had an almost immediate impact as he won a penalty, three minutes before the break.

Ryan stepped up to take it but Maguire, combining with corner-back and captain Philip Brennan, batted the sliotar away.

Tipp kept pressing and Corbett and Ryan (0-02) nudged the visitors 0-08 to 0-05 ahead before midfielder McCrabbe sent over the final point of the half for Naughton's side.

Ross O'Carroll and Keith Dunne tagged on points at the start of the second period and Dublin managed to wipe out a Ryan free with an excellent goal from Carton.

That goal put Dublin 1-08 to 0-10 ahead but the Dubs faltered thereafter as they only mustered 0-03 over the closing half-hour of the match. In response, Tipp amassed 1-11 as they cruised clear.

An unfortunate slip by Stephen Hiney allowed Corbett to race clean through and drill home Tipp's only goal, three minutes after Carton's strike.

Points followed from Ryan, who top-scored with 0-10, the busy Benny Dunne, who did well on his return to the Premier County side, Egan and second half substitute Shane McGrath.

The margin of victory could have been more as Hugh Maloney missed a late chance to raise a green flag and Maguire again showed his cat-like reflexes to repel a shot from Ryan O'Dwyer.

O'Carroll also hit the crossbar in the closing stages but by that point the Dubs knew they were fighting a losing battle.

Crucially, they had a scoreless 15 minute period between Carton netting and the same player landing a 58th minute point and despite this being their fifth game in four weeks, Tipperary had the wherewithal to produce a timely scoring burst.
