George O'Connor has been appointed as the first Hurling Development Administrator for Wexford.
The All-Ireland winner of 1996 has been handed a three-year term and will formally commence work next month.
He will be operating from an office in Wexford Park, with the post being funded by the Irish Sports Council via the Leinster Council, supported by the County Board.
O'Connor will be touching base with the national schools, second level schools and clubs, and will be expected to implement the development plan for hurling in the county which has been drawn up by John Conran, Jim Kilty, Mick Kinsella and John Barron.
They remain as the Steering Committee for the overall project, assisted by Kilkenny's Pat Henderson who is the Leinster Council's appointee as Chairman, and Fr Odhran Furlong (Secretary).
