Westmeath v Dublin preview

The right to retain Liam McCarthy Cup status is up for grabs when Westmeath take on Dublin in the relegation play-off at Tullamore on Saturday, throw-in at 2.00pm.

This is a vital game for the future of hurling in both counties as a loss would see them return to the relative doldrums of the Christy Ring wilderness.

Dublin will be out for revenge for their loss to the Lakesiders in the Leinster SHC. They showed good form in the SHC qualifiers, despite the glitch against Clare, and will go into the game as favourites.

Westmeath have rung in the changes for the game, a response to the hammering that Galway dished out to them last weekend, and will also have been happy with the majority of their performances this year.

Dublin should use the memories of their narrow loss to Seamus Qualter's side to inspire them to victory and ensure their survival in the SHC top flight.
