Big full-forward Brian Begley goaled twice as Limerick fought off a determined Dublin side to advance to the All-Ireland SHC quarter-finals, winning tonight's qualifier clash by 2-16 to 1-13.

It took an injury-time goal from Begley to confirm the result. Cork or Kilkenny await the Shannonsiders in the last-eight.

Begley fielded a Mark Foley delivery and kicked it to the visitors’ net. Dublin, for whom David Curtin scored 0-05, replied in first half injury-time when their number 14 Kevin Flynn netted for a 1-05 to 1-08 deficit.

The Dubs, who now face Westmeath in a relegation play-off, had a number of goal chances saved by Brian Murray, while Pat Tobin pointed for Limerick before Begley bagged his second goal in injury-time.

Points from Donie Ryan, Conor Fitzgerald and Barry Foley raced Limerick 0-03 to no score ahead before Curtin, Dublin's championship top scorer with 0-23 before the throw-in, hit over a free.

Corner forward Carton had a good sighting of Murray's goal on seven minutes but he flicked his shot to the right and wide.

Mark Foley also had a blistering shot saved by Dublin net minder Maguire before Begley plucked Foley's long ball out of the sky in the 32nd-minute and scrambled it over the goal line.

The Dubs bounced back to close the gap to 1-06 to 1-09 by the interval as Flynn got onto a long ball and flashed it past the unsighted Murray for his goal.

Dublin were still very much in the hunt at 1-13 to 1-16, thanks to points from the excellent Liam Ryan and Curtin, when Begley decided the tie with a crisply-hit shot at the death.

There was still time for Murray to deny Kelly and Curtin to wrap up his personal tally.
