Former Limerick hurling manager Tom Ryan has called on the entire county board to step down following manager Joe McKenna's resignation.
McKenna tendered his resignation in the wake of Sunday's heavy defeat by Clare in the All-Ireland qualifiers.
The county board met yesterday to discuss the fallout from McKenna's decision, but Ryan believes that the board should follow McKenna's lead and fall on their swords.
In an interview with RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Ryan described the current state of Limerick hurling affairs as a 'shambles' and said: 'The whole system collapsed and somebody has to take responsibility for that now.
'This is the usual scenario in Limerick, the managers go and the people who appointed the managers are left in position. We need a total review of our standing, our position and our management of our games in Limerick.
'I've been involved deeply in hurling in Limerick all my life, and am still deeply involved in the club scene. I can see the standards are dropping. Management has collapsed in Limerick, the county board are responsible for that,' Ryan insisted.
'The shambles that is Limerick hurling is continuing down the same road - manager after manager. A lot of these managers are not capable or competent enough to coach and inter-county team.
'There has to be a review, heads have to fall and the county board has to be replaced in Limerick,' Ryan concluded.
