Limerick Co Board will decide on an interim replacement for Joe McKenna on Tuesday

The Limerick county board executive met this evening to discuss the fallout from the shock resignations of manager Joe McKenna and selector and coach Ger Cunningham following Sunday's heavy defeat by Clare in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

After an hour long meeting behind closed doors, county board chairman Denis Holmes said they had agreed a proposal which would be put before a full county board meeting on Tuesday, starting at 9.30pm.

He refused to elaborate any further, but did say they would be recommending to delegates that any appointments be on an interim basis.

It is understood that the executive are to put forward for consideration the name of a candidate for the vacant position of manager and it is widely accepted that team captain TJ Ryan will be offered a role in team selection.

Meanwhile, in a letter of county hoard secretary James Hartigan, Joe McKenna expressed his disappointment with the way in which his tenure had ended.

Team trainer Dave Mahedy is still considering his position.

According to insiders, goalkeeper Brian Murray did not resume in the second half at Cusack Park after he had complained of lack of adequate cover in defence and was told that he was being replaced by Tim Houlihan.
