The Ulster Council has rejected a request from New York to postpone the provincial hurling final clash with Antrim scheduled for Sunday 4 June.

New York board chairman Seamus Dooley had expressed uncertainty over the ability of the New York side to travel given work commitments and visa difficulties involving a number of the players.

He told the Irish Examiner: "If we did travel – and I'm not saying that we will – we would have to make arrangements for 40 or 50 people and for them to get time off work.

"In fairness, they would need to give us at least four weeks. The Ulster Council should have been looking at Plan B, the same as we were."
