Allianz NHL Division 1 previews

Tipp and Offaly will be looking to meet either Limerick or Waterford in the final
Tipp and Offaly will be looking to meet either Limerick or Waterford in the final

Patrick Kenneddy gives his predictions on this weekend's Allianz NHL Division One quarter-finals and relegation semi-finals.

ALLIANZ NHL DIVISION 1 QUARTER-FINALS - SUNDAY

Offaly v Tipperary

Both sides are lucky to be here, although Offaly put on a great display to overcome Waterford last weekend.

They both showed inconsistent form in the NHL campaign and the outcome should come down to what team wants the win more.

Babs Keating is after tinkering with the Tipp line-up again and that may dishearten the Premier side.

Offaly should still be on a high from qualifying for this stage and that should be enough to inspire them. Expect a big performance from Brian Carroll.

Verdict: Offaly

Limerick v Waterford

Limerick have been more consistent this year and the Shannonsiders could cash in on the dip in form that Waterford showed against Offaly last week.

Their full-forward line is moulding well and Mark Keane's re-emergence is going very well so far.

Waterford had been going well, but they are always likely to be beaten until they can settle on a decent full-back line. This appears to be the last obstacle to them taking home honours outside of their own province.

The Limerick forwards can expose this with ease if they get the right kind of supply.

Verdict: Limerick

ALLIANZ NFL DIVISION 1 RELEGATION SEMI-FINALS -SATURDAY

If Down manage to escape from relegation this year it will expose the failing of the NHL.

For the last two years they have been completely out of their depth. Yet, due to the ridiculous league structure, if they win one game they will survive. Antrim should overcome them with ease.

The other game will be a bit closer but it's difficult to see Wexford allowing Laois any freedom to get their forwards into scoring positions. The Modelmen should win by five or six points while remaining in second gear.

Verdict: Antrim and Wexford.
