Limerick hurlers open their 2006 campaign against Waterford in the Waterford Crystal League on Sunday and must again plan without Brian Begley.

Begley, out of action for two years because of a leg injury, had been expected to return to training last week but delayed his comeback.

Selector Liam Lenihan said: "Brian feels that his injury has not healed sufficiently and will sit it out for a few more weeks"

The panel trained in Rathkeale last evening but team selection was delayed until Friday.

"We have drafted in a few newcomers and will probably give them a run in Waterford. We need to strengthen our team, particularly up front. This competition is ideal for such purposes."

All Munster counties, apart from Cork are taking part, as are third level colleges.
