Daragh Ryan, who has turned out to be a crucial player in the Wexford defence over the last few seasons, has all but ruled himself out of the Slaneysiders defence of the Leinster Championship.

The former All Star, recovering from a knee operation has said: "My inter-county championship aspirations at the moment are 'zero'.' The player went under the knife two months back for a cartilage problem in his knee, but his recovery rate has been slower than expected, been hampered by the fact that he has already undergone cruciate operations on both knees in the
past.

In a huge blow to the county's chances of successfully defending their provincial title following a disappointing end to the league campaign.

The player went on to say: "I've only had forty minutes hurling since playing with Leinster last October when I damaged the knee. Right now I'm looking no further than this Saturday evening and my club's opening county senior hurling championship game against Shelmaliers."

Ryan's knee problems have been with him right through his career having over-come two career threatening cruciate knee operation to turn into one of the top full-backs in the game. But right now Ryan is just looking at the club scene to gauge his future career.
