Limerick leave Laois reeling

Limerick overcame the early sending-off of midfielder Donal O'Grady to post their second win of the NHL Division One Relegation section with a 5-18 to 2-12 victory over Laois at Kilmallock.

O'Grady walked after only 12 seconds for a heavy challenge on James Walsh. But the Shannonsiders were soon motoring - 1-04 to 0-03 in front - thanks to Donnacha Sheehan's goal after three minutes.

James Young - Laois' top score throughout the league with 0-41 - had opened well for the visitors' with the game's opening two points and he went on to hit four of their first half tally.

Limerick were on top though, leading 3-13 to 0-06 at the break thanks to further goals from Donie Ryan and Ollie Moran.

A Young penalty eight minutes into the second half rallied the midlanders, as did a second green flag from Tony Fitzgerald.

The home side replied with a brace of points from Conor Fitzgerald and TJ Ryan. Two goals in the final 12 minutes from Niall Moran and Alan O'Connor helped race Limerick to a 15-point winning margin.
