The Offaly senior hurlers have expressed their support for their county footballers who went on strike in mid-September following the resignation of their manager Gerry Fahy due to a lack of support from the county board.

At a recent meeting held between the hurling and football panels to discuss the grievances that both parties have suffered in recent years, it was agreed that these experiences were of a very similar nature.

Hurling manager Mike Mcnamara also resigned the same time as Fahy, citing poor county board support as a problem.

The Offaly hurling panel said in a statement: "We recognise these difficulties and would like to state that we fully support the footballers in their action.

"Both the hurlers and footballers are keen to stress that ultimately, they have the interests and promotion of Offaly GAA at heart and in this regard it has been arranged that both parties will meet with the Offaly county board in the near future to try to bring about a resolution to this current situation."
