GAA congress won't debate on opening of Croke Park

Croker will remain closed for the time being.

The GAA has confirmed that there will be no debate on the controversial issue of opening Croke Park to other sports at this year's congress in Killarney after the motions were ruled out of order.

It is no less than was expected as last week all four provincial council chairmen expressed a desire to treat the matter with caution.

While outgoing Munster chairman, Christy Cooney, urged GAA members not to vote for the opening of Croker to other sports.

Cooney believes that the GAA should not open up Croker simply because other sporting bodies have failed to provide their own sporting arenas for their own supporters and feels that the financial arguments are not strong enough.
