Poor Clare are whitewashed by Cork

A thundering start from Cork eventually turned into a whitewash of a disappointing Clare team as The Rebels earned a place in this year's Munster Hurling Championship final with an emphatic 1-18 to 0-10 victory at Semple Stadium.

Joe Deane opened the scoring for the Leesiders from a free almost straight from the throw-in. In the 13th minute, he scored a stunning goal from 15 yards which provided the essential gap between the two teams. Poor Clare finishing left the half-time score at 1-06 to 0-02.

Clare began the second-half well but never recovered from Deane’s goal. When Colin Lynch was sent off for dangerous play six minutes from the end, the Clare team looked thoroughly demoralised and excellent finishing from Deane, Setanta O’Hailpín and Niall McCarthy maintained Cork’s lead.
