Kilkenny take seven All-Stars

Kilkenny led the way when the Hurling All-Stars for 2002 were named at Citywest Hotel in Dublin tonight, with the Cats taking seven of the available 15 spots.

Kilkenny's talismanic forward DJ Carey received a record ninth award, while Brian Lohan of Clare picked up his fourth. Eoin Kelly of Tipperary was named Young Hurler of the Year while Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin picked up the senior award for Hurler of the Year.

Meanwhile, All-Ireland football champions Armagh swept the boards again tonight when they claimed both individual honours at Citywest Hotel. Inspirational captain Kieran McGeeney, who earlier received his third All Star in six years, claimed the Senior Player of the Year Award for his outstanding displays in defence this year.

Forward Ronan Clarke made up for the disappointment of missing out on an All Star by taking the Young Player of the Year Award. Armagh had six players on the All Star team following their maiden All-Ireland success in September.
