NHL round-up

Galway defeated Clare by the narrowest of margins today to make it two wins out of two in Division 1A of the hurling league. It was a closely fought contest but the arrival of Joe Rabbitte just before half time proved to be the spur Galway needed to take the game to Clare who were the better hurlers during the first half. Rabbitte brought strength to the park and within 10 minutes of the restart Galway were three points up.

Clare fought back though through the impressive hurling of Tony Griffin and Jamsie O’Connor and midway through the second half they had a two-point advantage. Clare continued to hurl well and both sides traded points before Ollie Fahy scored a goal near the end to give Galway their second league win and Clare their first league defeat.

Elsewhere in Division 1A Dublin won their first match of the campaign, beating Waterford 1-19 to 1-14 at Parnell Park while at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny hammered Meath 2-22 to 0-9 points.

In Division 1B, Wexford beat All-Ireland champions Tipperary 3-13 to 1-10 at Wexford Park. In Birr, Limerick enjoyed their second win in a row with a 1-18 to 2-10 victory over Offaly.

In Division 2A, Westmeath won their first game of the campaign, beating Roscommon 1-14 to 1-10 at Mullingar and Laois top Division 2B, after scraping by Kerry, winning 0-14 points to 0-13 in Tralee.
