Tipperary win seven All Stars

All-Ireland hurling champions Tipperary top the 2001 Eircell Vodaphone Hurling All Stars with seven winners. All-Ireland finalists Galway have four players making the cut with one each from Wexford, Limerick, Clare and Kilkenny.

Brendan Cummins, Philip Maher, Eamonn Corcoran, midfielders Tommy Dunne and Eddie Enright, and forwards, Mark O'Leary and Eoin Kelly, make up Tipperary's magnificent seven. This number equals Tipperary's previous record number of winners when seven players were selected following their All-Ireland win in 1991.

Galway's four are Ollie Canning and Liam Hodgins in defence with Kevin Broderick and Eugene Cloonan in attack. The other four are Darragh Ryan (Wexford), Mark Foley (Limerick), James O'Connor (Clare) and Charlie Carter (Kilkenny).

The awards will be presented by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, at tomorrow night's All Star banquet in the Citywest Hotel. The event will be broadcast on RTÉ 1 and will also feature the announcement of the 2001 football All Stars.
