Victorious Tipperary boss, Nicky English, has finally broken his vow of silence about the suspension, which saw Brian O'Meara miss the All-Ireland hurling final. The left half forward was unavailable, due to a ban imposed because of a sending off in the replayed semi-final with Wexford. English had previously refused to comment on the issue, but has now called the decision "wrong".
Even as the team were basking in the glory of their final triumph, the one blot on their season, O' Meara's suspension, clearly still rankled. The player was slapped with a four-week ban by the GAC.
English said: "I think it's wrong that Brian O'Meara didn't get to play and I think everybody realises that it's wrong. As far as I can see, the people who decided whether or not O'Meara should be suspended were football people. Hurling is a different game to football and decisions should be made about hurling by hurling people."
