Cork 1-20 Clare 1-11
Wexford 5-13 Laois 1-9
Jonathan O'Callaghan notched up a personal tally of 1-11 as Cork beat Clare to take the Munster Intermediate Hurling title yesterday evening. Clare started promisingly, trailing by just one point 0-9 to 0-8 at the break, but the inspirational O'Callaghan powered the Rebels to victory with a rapid-fire burst of scoring, including a goal. Tony Griffin scored Clare's goal in injury time to make the score more respectable, but the Banner County were well-beaten by an impressive young Cork side.
Laois were outclassed by a rampant second half Wexford performance in the Leinster Intermediate Hurling final. This was their first win in this competition since 1965 and their second provincial title in a week following their Leinster under-21 win, but the game was more evenly matched than the scoreline suggests. Wexford took a 2-5 to 0-6 lead into half time after starting well, but Enda Meagher pulled a goal back for Laois within 15 seconds of the restart. However, Wexford responded quickly and goals from Francis Simpson and Richard Murphy put them in the clear.
