Limerick hurling selector Michael Fitzgerald has been banned by the GAA for twelve months. The issue arose when Fitzgerald's club Kilmallock allegedly fielded an illegible player at under-12 level and Fitzgerald, as the club's chairman, had to take responsibility for the error and has been suspended along with the player in question. Both are set to appeal the decision.
As a result of the suspension, Fitzgerald cannot now play any part in Limerick's preparation for Sunday week's All-Ireland Hurling Quarter-Final tie against Wexford at Croke Park.
