Kieran McKeever is battling to be fit for Derry's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final clash against Galway on July 29. McKeever suffered a severe back injury in Sunday's Ulster final win over Down and is set to undergo intense treatment.
"I have been suffering from a bad back for most of the year, but I jumped up for a ball in the second half on Sunday and injured it very badly," said McKeever, who retired from inter-county football earlier this year to concentrate on hurling. "I'm hopeful I'll be okay in time for the game. It is a race against time but I have two weeks to get right again," he added.
