GAA: Board and Barry-Murphy clash over selectors

The future of Jimmy Barry-Murphy as manager of the Cork hurling team will all depend on the decision the County Board makes regarding the other selectors. In Cork, under a county bye-law only five people can be included on the selection committee and one of those must be a representative from the county champions. This means that one member of Barry-Murphy's fellow selectors - Tom Cashman, John Crowley, Bertie Óg Murphy and Fred Sheehy - will have to step down and be replaced by recently crowned champions Newtownshandrum's choice.

However, Barry-Murphy, who guided Cork to a National League title in 1998 and and All-Ireland title in 1999, was upset at losing Seanie O'Leary last year (he was replaced by Murphy) and has said he does not wish to lose any more of his coaching staff, threatening to step down if a satisfactory compromise cannot be reached.
