Ireland's Tim Cross has announced his retirement from international hockey after 79 senior appearances in green.

Having previously played for Australia, Melbourne native Cross made his Ireland debut in 2019.

The 35-year-old represented Ireland at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In 2022, Cross played in all five matches as Ireland secured an historic silver medal at the FIH Hockey Nations Cup, and also won bronze and silver medals in two EuroHockey Championship II tournaments.

He said: "It is not an easy decision to step away from something that has been such a defining part of my life for so many years, but I do so with immense pride in what we have achieved together and deep gratitude for everyone who has been part of the journey.

"When I look back, I think of a path that has taken me from Melbourne, where I first picked up a stick, to a life and career that brought me to Europe and, ultimately, to representing Ireland.

"Pulling on the green jersey for the first time in 2019 is a moment I will never forget. From that point on, I felt incredibly privileged to represent Ireland on some of hockey's biggest stages."
