Ireland 4-1 Poland

Ireland made it three wins from three in their Men's FIH World Cup qualifying pool after beating Poland by three goals in Santiago, Chile.

Mark Tumilty's side went into Wednesday's final pool game off the back of impressive wins over Canada and South Korea.

Ireland continued in that vein against Poland as Louis Rowe fired into the roof of the net to open the scoring in the final minute of the first quarter.

Lee Cole doubled that lead before half-time from a penalty corner, getting his fifth goal of the tournament.

Ireland extended the lead midway through the third quarter after Benjamin Walker volleyed into the net following some excellent build-up play from Mark McNellis and Rowe.

Poland did pull a goal back via a Wojciech Rutkowski penalty corner. But Ireland would have the final say late on as as Jonny Lynch drove along the baseline and pulled the ball back for Matthew Nelson to bundle in the fourth goal.

The win ensured that Ireland ended their Pool B campaign at the top of the table.

Their next assignment will be a semi-final on Friday at 10.30pm Irish time against the runners-up from Pool A.

Victory in that last-four game would secure qualification for the 2026 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup which will be co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands in August.
