The new season of hockey's FIH Pro League will begin in Dublin in December as the Ireland women's team take part in the elite international competition for the first time.

Ireland were beaten in a penalty shootout by New Zealand in the second-tier Nations Cup final in March this year but the victors declined an invitation to take part, meaning Gareth Grundie's side, who finished last of eight teams at last month's European Championships, will face eight countries over a six-month period.

Ireland begin their campaign against Belgium and England at the Sport Ireland campus in Blanchardstown in December, travel to Australia to take on the hosts and Argentina in February, go to the Netherlands to face the world champions and Spain in June, before concluding their campaign against host nation Germany and China later that month.

Ireland's men were relegated back to the Nations Cup for next season and tournament debutants Pakistan are their replacements. Belgium, England and Germany's men sides also begin their campaigns in Dublin.

Both the men's and women's champions will guarantee their place at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.
