UCD 3-1 Pegasus

UCD battled past Pegaus to win the women's Irish Senior Hockey Cup for the third time in four years.

UCD took the game by the scruff of the neck early on with two goals in the opening quarter.

A penalty corner in the first five minutes saw KJ Marshall insert for UCD and Hannah McLoughlin slotted into the open goal.

UCD’s Michelle Carey showed off some impressive skills shortly afterwards to make it 2-0.

With a number of Pegasus defenders in the circle trying to keep her out, Carey lifted the ball onto her stick in mid-air, juggling it as she moved before hitting it in past Pegasus keeper Megan Todd.

Pegasus came out fighting in the second quarter, with a number of early entries into the UCD circle. They just couldn't find the breakthrough however as a combination of stout UCD defending and a lack of a clinical edge saw them squander some openings.

Pegasus kept pushing and they got their lifeline from a second-half penalty corner, Ruth Maguire rifling home to halve the deficit.

Pegasus turned the screw in the final quarter but with five minutes left on the clock, Katherine Egan sealed the victory with a cool finish off a UCD attack.
