Ireland to renew rivalries with Dutch at Olympic Games

The Ireland women's hockey team have been drawn alongside World Cup winners the Netherlands in the pool stages of the Olympic Games.

The International Hockey Federation confirmed the final grouping on Saturday, which means that Sean Dancer's side will compete in Pool A at next year's Tokyo Games where the top four teams will secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Ireland line out in the six-team group with the aforementioned Dutch, who beat Ireland 6-0 in the 2018 World Cup final, as well as Great Britain, South Africa, India and Germany.

Pool B is comprised of the other six nations competeing in the 12-team event, Spain, Australia, Argentina, China, New Zealand and Japan.

The men's competition is a mirror-image of the women's format, however, Ireland missed out on a place at the Games following a heart-breaking defeat to Canada.
