RTÉ will carry live coverage of the Ireland's historic two-legged Olympic qualifier against Canada at Energia Park in Donnybrook.

Sean Dancer's side take on the Canadians on 2 and 3 November, enjoying home advantage due to their place in the world's top 10.

Canada were the lowest ranked side Ireland, who are ranked eighth in the world, could have faced.

With Leinster Rugby giving Hockey Ireland the green light to use the venue, a roll-out Polytan carpet will be used to transform the pitch.

"An Olympic qualifier on home soil is a unique event - the only one in Ireland this year," said Hockey Ireland chief executive Jerome Pels.

"We are delighted that Leinster Rugby share our excitement and ambition about the potential for bringing Big Stadium Hockey to Energia Park and exploiting the benefits of existing infrastructure to raise the profile of women's sport."

Ireland memorably made it to the World Cup final last year, but will break new ground if they can get past Canada and book their ticket to Tokyo.

No Ireland women's hockey team has ever competed at an Olympic Games.
